2010 Blue Diamond Stakes Preview

The countdown to the prestigious and highly anticipated 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes has begun and the Group 1 race will take place on the 20th of February at the world famous Caulfield Racecourse.

As the richest two-year-old race in Australia offering $1 million in prize money, the event is seeing horses flock to Melbourne, and it seems the line-up will provide an exciting battle as any.

Taking place as the highlight event of the Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes Day, the 1200m set-weight race will be host to the elite two-year-old horses in Australia.

Mark Riley-trained Innocent Gamble has been a confirmed starter for the 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes after winning his first event at the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) last Tuesday. The colt will race in the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on Saturday with Nash Rawiller riding for both events.

Another colt to look out for is the local Danny O’Brien-trained Star Witness who comes into the Stakes after two consecutive wins – most recently the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.

Beneteau is grabbing headlines in the countdown to the 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes and is sure to make an impact after recently winning three-out-of-three starts. The Paul Messara-trained colt most recently won at Randwick and will have another run at Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes Prelude.

The filly to keep an eye on will be Crystal Lily who won at Caulfield on Australia Day however Secession is making early claims to be the favourite to win the $600,000 for top spot.

Final nominations are at noon on Monday 15th February with final declarations the following day.
