2011 Blue Diamond Stakes Final Field Announced

February 22nd, 2011

The final field has been announced for the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes that will take place this Saturday February 26, 2011, at Caulfield Racecourse.

The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes final field includes 14 hopeful juveniles who will all compete over the 1,200 metre distance for the $1 million prize money on offer.

Amongst the acceptances is champion-in-the-making and overwhelming favourite Sepoy, who has won both the Blue Diamond Preview and the Blue Diamond Prelude in the lead up the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Sepoy, who is trained by Peter Snowden and remains unbeaten with three straight wins, is currently the most fancied of the already smart field at Luxbet.

Hoping to stage an upset over the odds-on favourite Sepoy is Tim Martin’s Anevay, who staged a convincing victory in last Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) on Lightning Stakes Day at Flemington Racecourse.

Saturday’s win was the first of three starts for the Exceed And Excel filly who stormed home to beat the rest of the field by a resounding one and three quarter lengths.

Also in the field is Lee Freedman’s Atomic who paid the late entry fee in order to compete in the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Atomic has won his only previous start in stellar style, claiming victory in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes at Sandown Racecourse on February 9, 2011.

The Commands colt’s connections yesterday made the decision to pay the $55,000 late entry fee and he currently features as a $10 chance and third favourite to win the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes at Luxbet.

Second favourite, currently paying odds of around $9 at Luxbet, is Peter Moody’s Hallowell Belle, who despite having no wins to her name so far in her short career, has instilled confidence in her ability in the minds of punters after her remarkable effort to place third in the Blue Diamond Prelude last start.

Hallowell Belle had the toughest run of the race in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 12, 2011, but came flashing down the outside of the home straight to snare a placing.

Also amongst the final field are Lee Freedman’s Masthead, Robbie Laing’s Spectrolite, Mick Price’s Holdontoyahorses and Wendy Kelly’s Artic Command.

Notable horses that chose not to accept for the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes include Peter Snowden’s Glissade and Helmet, Clarry Conner’s Satin Shoes and John Thompson’s Pane In The Glass.
