Blake Shinn Engaged To Ride Jimando In Blue Diamond Stakes 2012

January 31st, 2012

The Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 is less than a month away and jockey Blake Shinn has already been engaged to ride current favourite Jimando for the race.

Jimando is presently paying odds of $5 to win the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes at Luxbet.

The Commands colt has won his only previous start in the Listed Inglis Debutante Stakes at Caulfield racecourse on October 12, 2011.

Trainer Tony McEvoy is hoping Shinn will ride Jimando in both the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes and the $3.5 million Golden Slipper in April.

“I’ve elected Blake to ride him for a couple of reasons,” McEvoy said.

“Firstly he is a top class rider of course and secondly he’s very effective in both Melbourne and Sydney.

“All being well with the horse we’ll go to Sydney for the Golden Slipper after the Blue Diamond.”

Jimando will make his autumn debut in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.

Jimando has already been assigned the top weight of 58 kilograms in the $100,000 race.

“I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully he can put it together like he did in October,” McEvoy said.

“He’s had a jump out at home just to remind him of what to do and he did it all very well.

“So that was most pleasing.”

Blue Diamond Stakes 2012 third declarations are due out later today.
