Blake Shinn Unconfirmed For 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes Ride

February 3rd, 2012

Trainer Tony McEvoy has revealed that jockey Blake Shinn is not confirmed to ride Jimando in the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse on February 25, 2012.

Shinn is booked to ride Jimando in tomorrow’s 2012 Listed Emirates Airlines Stakes, but the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper rides are unconfirmed.

“Blake is a chance to stay with the horse, but other than being booked for tomorrow, there is nothing firm in place,” McEvoy said.

While he would not confirm Shinn’s position on the horse in races to come, McEvoy was full of praise for Shinn prior to Jimando’s run in the Emirates Airlines Stakes tomorrow.

“There are a few reasons for putting Blake on. First, he is a very good rider who is extremely focused at the moment and he likes the horse,” McEvoy said.

“He is also very effective in Melbourne and Sydney, which will also be an advantage when we head up there.”

Jimando is favourite to win the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes at Luxbet and his form was confirmed when The Travelling Man won the Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield on Australia Day.

The Travelling Man finished fourth to Jimando in the Listed Inglis Debutante Stakes at Caulfield in October last year.

“I’m very pleased with his progress. He’s a big lump of a horse who weighs 540 kilos and there will be improvement to come,” McEvoy said.
