McEvoy Backs Jimando As 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes Winner

February 7th, 2012

Trainer Tony McEvoy still believes Jimando can win the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 25, 2012, despite his last start defeat.

Jimando finished third behind Mama’s Choice and Formidable in the Listed Emirates Airline Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday.

McEvoy remains optimistic that Jimando is still a big chance to claim victory in the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes 2012.

“Sure I thought he would win but the way things worked out I’m not disappointed and still confident he can prove a top chance in the Blue Diamond,” McEvoy said.

“It was only when the winner and runner-up raced past him that Jimando decided he would switch on and race his rivals but it was too late.

“The trio still beat the rest of the rivals by about three lengths and I still believe that is the right form going into the Blue Diamond.”

The trainer said the track did not suit Jimando’s race style.

“Swoopers, horses finishing on out wide, had a good day at Caulfield,” he said.

McEvoy will now make some final changes to Jimando’s gear prior to the 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“He was back home at Angaston on Sunday at 11am and over the next three weeks I’ll tinker about with winkers and blinkers and maybe make a gear change for the Blue Diamond,” McEvoy said.

“Hopefully he draws towards the middle of the field and we will definitely ride him back in the field rather than leading like we did on Saturday.”
