Villa Verde Set To Bypass 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes

January 15th, 2013

Villa Verde will not line up for the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse on February 23, 2013.

The talented two-year-old has won both her previous race starts, with her most recent being in the Listed 7News Plate at Flemington on November 6, 2013.

Despite her prior success, trainer Shaun Dwyer does not feel a run in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes would be beneficial to her horse racing career.

Dwyer will sit out the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes and instead target the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 6, 2013.

“If Villa Verde was a colt, maybe I’d have a crack at the Diamond, because as a colt he’d be worth $5 million if he won it,” Dwyer said.

“But being a filly, you may as well go for where the really big money is and the big money’s in the Slipper.

“You’ve got to look after the young horses.

“You can’t win everything and there aren’t many who’ve been able to win the Diamond and the Slipper.”

Prior to her 2013 Golden Slipper assignment, Villa Verde will take part in the group 2 Resiling Stakes two weeks prior.

“Hopefully she can run in the Reisling and win it 80 per cent fit,” Dwyer said.
