Thermal Current Rested Ahead Of 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes

February 7th, 2013

Trainer Peter Moody has opted to rest Thermal Current ahead of the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse on February 23, 2013.

Thermal Current is yet to win a race, however, has put in two strong placings in his previous runs.

While Moody will give stable mate Dissident a run in this Saturday’s Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G), he feels Thermal Current will perform best fresh in the $1 million race.

Moody believes Thermal Current will have no problems making the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes final field.

“He galloped strongly (Tuesday) morning and when we sat back and assessed it we thought he was about number 13 in the order of entry,” Moody said.

“And through the process of elimination we had him as high as number nine so I didn’t feel he needed the run.”

On the other hand, Dissadent will benefit highly from a run in Saturday’s 2013 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G), after winning the Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) on debut.

The result will also help Moody decide whether or not to pay the late entry fee for the two-year-old, who was not originally nominated for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“Dissident, I felt he probably needs the experience and if he did happen to win it wouldn’t hurt because we have to look at paying a late entry.”

The Sebring colt is currently second favourite to win Saturday’s race and is paying odds of $3.40 at
