Casquets Scratched From 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes Field

February 19th, 2013

Casquets has already been scratched from the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes field, after barriers were released this morning.

The two-year-old was withdrawn from the $1 million event after she drew the widest barrier of 16 in the race.

Casquets is only two starts into her autumn preparation, however, it now seems likely she will head to the paddock instead of continuing on to pursue autumn riches.

The Fastnet Rock filly placed third in the $50,000 Sportingbet Plate on début earlier this month, before winning the Listed Talindert Stakes last weekend.

When last asked, trainer Mark Kavanagh was still unsure whether or not to back the filly up seven days later in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“I’ll see how she pulls up,” Kavanagh said after her last race win.

“She may go to the paddock or may head to the Diamond.

“If she can show the same improvement that she did from her Moonee Valley run to today, she would certainly be a chance in the Diamond.

“She ran on her raw ability at Moonee Valley and has improved, so the signs are good.”

The trainer had initially opted to run Casquets in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes for a shot at the alluring prize money on offer, however, clearly felt that her chances from barrier 16 are negligible.

Casquets had been due to be ridden by jockey Michael Rodd, who will now be left without a ride in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes.
