Darley Trio Primed For 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes

November 29th, 2013

Peter Snowden is already looking towards the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes, which will run at Caulfield Racecourse in February 2014.

The trainer, who will end his association with Darley next May, believes early two-year-olds Earthquake, Memorial and Occitan are all contenders for the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Memorial will have her second ever race start when she runs at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse tomorrow and Snowden is hopeful she can take home the prize.

The trainer is even looking as far forward as the $3.5 million Golden Slippernext April with Memorial.

“There is good prize money and a two-year-old race every Saturday so we don’t have to force it in the autumn when we are trying to get their earnings up to get into the Slipper,” Snowden said.

“Earthquake, Memorial and Occitan are all progressive fillies but I think Earthquake is the most precocious and the right type for the Blue Diamond.”

Memorial won her debut race start in the $85,000 Alexandria Plate at Rosehill Gardens on November 16, 2013.

The Street Cry filly won that run by an impressive two and half lengths with jockey Christian Reith aboard.

Reith will once again partner up with Memorial when she lines up for the 2013 Alexandria Plate this weekend in the hopes of extending her unbeaten race record.
