January 28th, 2015

Rated a leading chance for success after taking out her only race start to date at Rosehill Gardens in December, classy filly Ottoman has been left out of third acceptances for the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes by Godolphin trainer, who did however leave eight names in contention including Calaverite, Antelucan and Igraine.

Running second in a strong Randwick barrier trial prior to her competitive debut, Calaverite stamped her claims as a serious Blue Diamond hopeful when hitting the line a half-length in the clear of Igraine in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on October 4th.

Having also contested just the one start so far in finishing second in the Gimcrack Stakes, Igraine has reportedly taken particularly well to her time in the paddock and subsequent return to work and will resume in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) two weeks prior to the Blue Diamond Stakes.

Jumping from the gates only fairly in her only start to date, the Group 3 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) on November 4th, Antelucan was forced to settle at the tail of the field, but displayed an exceptional turn of foot late to find the line half a length in the clear of closest rival and fellow Blue Diamond Stakes third acceptor Thurlow.

A leading chance for success for trainer Robert Smerdon, Thurlow has progressed well since placing second on debut in the Emirates Airline Plate; most notably when overcoming a classy field to take out the Listed Santa’s Magical Kingdom Stakes (1000m) at Sandown on November 15th.

Saddling the second and third-placed Jabali and Cornrow in the 2014 edition of the Blue Diamond Stakes, trainer Mick Price has confirmed five two-year-olds in third acceptances for this year’s feature.

The lead trainer at Darley Australia when Earthquake took out the 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes, trainer Peter Snowden has included just one runner in Wednesday’s third acceptances for his first tilt at the Group 1 feature training alongside son Paul; Outreach.

Yet to appear on course competitively, Outreach has performed particularly well in two barrier trials and is as good a chance as any to figure competitively in the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes.
