Pride Of Dubai Wins 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes – Race Results

February 28th, 2015

Peter & Paul Snowden’s Pride Of Dubai won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) this afternoon at Caulfield in a tight but strong effort.

It was the third start and first win for the colt, and what a race to earn his maiden in. Pride Of Dubai was runner-up to Of The Brave in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for colts and geldings two weeks ago but emerged the winner when it mattered most.

Pride Of Dubai was back midfield on the rails while Prompt Return led for the majority of the race. Firm favourite Fontiton took the lead round the home turn but dropped off after tiring early. With 200m to go, Pride Of Dubai was prime for a run but no one expected roughie Reemah to charge alongside him to the front.

The pair battled it out to the line and for a moment it looked like $101 hopeful Reemah would win the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes in an upset victory but Pride Of Dubai just managed to hold on by a head with Lake Geneva running a further  one and three-quarter lengths away in third.

It was back-to-back Blue Diamond wins for jockey Damian Browne, who won with Earthquake for Peter Snowden last year.

“He was a little bit tardy out but I was able to rail up and follow the favourite and got a good run there,” the jockey said following the race.

“On straightening Mark (Zahra, Fontiton) tried to shut the gate on me but I got on with a big, strong horse.

“This horse is going to be a top horse next year, this win was just a bonus.”

It was a fantastic win by Pride Of Dubai, who is now set to travel to Sydney for a bevy of high-class juvenile races that could include the $3.5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 21, the $1 million ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on April 4, and the $400,000 Champagne Stakes (1600m) a fortnight later.

“It’s always great to win these races,” Peter Snowden said.

“He does still have a lot to learn but if he didn’t win today he was certainly beat (by Reemah), it would have been a tragedy but to his credit he picked himself up and proved a worthy winner.

“His attitude is second to none.

“We’ll talk about it (the Slipper) this afternoon but I wouldn’t put it past him. He’s got the Sires and Champagne written all over him so we don’t want to waste that.”

Punters who backed Pride Of Dubai at enjoyed a lucrative payout with odds of $6.
