2016 Blue Diamond Stakes the Target for Extreme Choice

December 18th, 2015

Trainer Mick Price was thrilled with the debut effort mustered by Extreme Choice last weekend and has revealed the two-year-old will be set on a path towards the 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in early autumn.

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Extreme Choice jumped from the barriers well in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday and was settled in prime position on the heels of the race’s early leaders by jockey Glyn Schofield.

Receiving an ideal run in transit on the rails, Schofield peeled the son of Not A Single Doubt off the fence rounding onto the final straight and allowed the colt plenty of time to balance before mounting a final assault.

Immediately responding when asked for an extra effort, Extreme Choice produced a big and impressive turn of foot to pull clear and hit the line more than two lengths in the clear of closest rival So Serene.

Price was understandably pleased with Extreme Choice’s debut performance and confirmed he will be set on a traditional course towards the 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“Yeah it was a good run,” Price told Racing Ahead.

“He’s having two weeks off and then he’ll probably have a run into the Prelude at 1100m and then into the Blue Diamond, Inglis prize money counts for that.

“Then depending on what he does with prize money will determine whether he goes into the Slipper or not.

“He’s a natural two-year-old – he’s not overly big but he’s fast and sounds and not troubled by shins or anything like that.”

Following his dominant debut victory, Extreme Choice is currently rated a $5 chance of success and favourite in early 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets.
