While star Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt and clear Golden Slipper favourite Capitalist figures as the notable omission, a number of the season’s standout juveniles are still in the running to make the 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes field, including Defcon and Gravitate for Team Snowden.

A Choisir colt yet to contest a race competitively, Defcon has already stamped his claims as one to watch via a number of impressive performances amongst notable company in Sydney barrier trials.

Blake Shinn has taken the ride on the two-year-old in his two trials thus far, and as the leading jockey is the retained rider on Capitalist for the Snowden’s, Defcon could very well be his ticket to success in the 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Gravitate is also yet to appear on course competitively for the Snowdens but has completed a similarly commendable barrier trial line to his stable mate.

Having savaged the line for third in a 900m trial at Rosehill on January 4th, the Sebring colt will likely kick off in a minor sprint before looking towards a race like the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) a Caulfield a fortnight prior to the feature race.

Godolphin Australia have maintained a number of two-year-olds in 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes second acceptances including Calliope.

Calliope beat a number of well-bred two-year-olds in a Randwick barrier trial in September before making the best possible debut to racing when taking out the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Epsom Handicap Day.

A particularly exciting prospect for notable two-year-old trainer Mick Price, early race favourite Extreme Choice has also been confirmed in 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes second acceptances.

Extreme Choice jogged home to win a Randwick barrier trial on December 8th before attacking the line for a comfortable two length, $290,000 win in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) on December 12th.
