Extreme Choice Firms for 2016 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes

February 8th, 2016

Extreme Choice has continued to firm in favouritism for the 2016 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) after returning to racing for an impressive and comfortable win in Saturday’s Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.

Extreme Choice left a clear odds-on favourite in the Chairman’s Stakes and did his chances of success so harm when jumping well and immediately taking an ideal position in running on the heels of the race’s early leaders.

Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, champion hoop Damien Oliver allowed the colt plenty of time to balance before mounting a final assault; Extreme Choice responding with a typically scintillating turn of foot to hit the line close to five lengths in the clear of closest rival Highland Beat.

Trainer Mick Price was pleased with the Not A Single Doubt colt’s competitive return and is confident he is now primed for success in the 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes.

“It was probably the right race to run in,” Price told Racing Victoria.

“I didn’t feel the need to run in the 1100m, and then two weeks in [to the Blue Diamond], because I used a fair bit of horse going to Sydney.

“He’s had a nice break, and I suppose race day tells all, as it did.

“The main thing is he was strong to the line, the time was good, the horse did it with some up his sleeve.

“The burning question is going to be how he is at the end of 1200m, but who cares? He’s a nice horse.”

Price has experienced plenty of success with two-year-old runners through recent seasons and is confident Extreme Choice is more than up to the mark.

“He reminds me very much of Samaready. He’s a natural, you don’t have to do a lot with them,” Price said.

“I think we saw things like Miracles Of Life, where there was a possible query over 1200m, but I think when they’re natural two-year-olds, we think he’ll get it pretty well.

“We think he’s a red-hot chance in the race, I think he compares with her anyway.”

Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering Extreme Choice at Blue Diamond Stakes odds of $2.40 for success.
