Barrier 1 Ideal for Hell Of An Effort in Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes

February 24th, 2016

Hell Of An Effort has made a notable impact through his short racing career so far and prominent owner Wylie Dalziel is confident the colt’s allocation of the rails draw for Saturday’s 2016 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) could be pivotal.

Hell Of An Effort debuted to racing for an impressive win in the Chris’s Body Builders Maiden (1121m) at Geelong on December 6th before beating a talented field to the line by close to three lengths in the Joe Brown Plate (1100m) on Boxing Day.

Dalziel concedes that while unable to beat a single runner home in his return in the Inglis Premier (1200m) at Caulfield on February 6th, the son of Reward For Effort has worked well and is a chance a good odds in the 2016 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes, particularly from barrier 1.

“Very happy with that. It is probably better to draw inside. The horse has blinkers on for the first time in a race,” Dalziel told Racing Victoria.

“He trialled in them really nicely here last Tuesday.

“From barrier one Luke Nolen is going to take the ride, hopefully he can ping, absorb a bit of pressure and be there in the finish.

“He won a trial here nicely in his blinkers.

“I think he is a horse that can actually switch off. Hopefully the blinkers might switch him on. From barrier one if he gets running and gets rolling and absorb the pressure.

“He’s with a chance. He is not here for the run.

“I said to Moods (trainer Peter Moody) don’t put him in just for a day out. He said that I will assess him and if I think he will be competitive he will run around.

“If he could run top five in a Blue Diamond that would be a massive tick for everyone.

“I think in Diamonds and these sort of races it is whoever absorbs the pressure the best.

“Two year olds are a week to week proposition so who ever handles it the best on the day and absorbs the pressure and gets the right run in the race and gets the luck will come out on top.”

Hell Of An Effort has been confirmed to be partnered by Luke Nolen in the 2016 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes and as a colt, will carry 56.5kgs.

Ladbrokes.com.au are currently offering Hell Of An Effort at 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes odds of $41 for success or $9.40 to finish in the first three.
